Do I need an account to use LurkCam?
No. LurkCam is completely anonymous. You don't need to sign up, give an email, or create a password. Just open the site, allow camera access, and press Start.
Is LurkCam really free?
Yes. The core random video chat — matching, text, video, Back, Next, reporting — is free forever. Optional Basic and Premium subscriptions unlock country and gender filters, but they're never required to chat.
How does LurkCam match me with strangers?
When you press Start, you enter a queue. LurkCam's matchmaking pairs you with another online user in under a second, usually based on shared interests (if you added any) and availability. Match time depends on how many people are online.
Is LurkCam safe?
LurkCam is for adults 18+. We moderate the platform through one-click reporting, automated detection of repeat offenders, and a suspect-user blur that hides strangers with multiple recent reports by default. Always be cautious sharing personal information with strangers on any platform.
What happens when I report someone?
Reports are reviewed by the moderation team. Users with repeated reports are automatically flagged — their video is blurred for new matches, and if the pattern continues, they are banned. Reports are anonymous.
Why was I banned?
Bans happen when a user is reported for inappropriate behavior, harassment, nudity, or violating the community rules. The default ban is 7 days, but you can pay to unban earlier or wait it out. The first unban is free, subsequent unbans cost a small fee.
How does the country filter work?
With a Basic or Premium plan, you can choose to match only with strangers from a specific country. The filter uses the approximate country of each user's IP address. You can change it anytime during your session.
How does the gender filter work?
Gender filters are available on the Premium plan. Each user selects their own gender when they start a session (Male, Female, or Prefer not to say), and Premium users can match exclusively with one option.
Does LurkCam work on mobile?
Yes. LurkCam runs entirely in your browser on phones, tablets, and desktops. There's no app to download. Mobile supports swipe gestures — swipe right for Next, left for Back.
What are interests and how do they affect matching?
Interests are optional tags you can add before chatting (e.g. "music", "gaming", "travel"). LurkCam prioritizes matches with users who share at least one interest. If no interest-based match is found within a short window, you're matched randomly.
Does LurkCam record or store my video?
No. Video and audio travel peer-to-peer between you and your match via WebRTC — the server never sees them. We don't store chat messages either. Your IP address is hashed before it's stored, so even we can't see it.
What is the Back button?
The Back button lets you reconnect with the last person you were chatting with, if you accidentally pressed Next or got disconnected. It works within a 30-second window, as long as the other user hasn't already found someone else.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Open the Manage Plan page from the header and click Cancel. Your subscription remains active until the end of the current billing period, then automatically stops.
